A story told loud and clear

Taking a course on Storytelling may seem useless, but after the first few units, I see that such a view could never further from the truth.

The course takes us back to the classic silent film by Georges Meli├Ęs, Trip to the Moon, which has inspired so many filmmakers, writers and literary artists and continues to do so.

While watching it, I couldn't help but see similarities in many sci-fi series and films, Star Trek in particular and in the discovery of the New World by European conquistadores of the 15th and 16th centuries.

On the disturbing side is the ever present dominant role that we humans play when we come into contact with the new or unknown. It is there to be conquered and we are naturally superior to the new or the different.

If that same movie were produced today, what would the characters be saying? The possiblities are enormous.
